MICHAELA'S STORY OF RISE UP GLORY

The breakdown of my marriage caused me to doubt myself at every turn. Now, I feel confident again. I feel back in control of my own life. I feel mentally strong again and my old self is re-emerging.

I’ll be 54 in a few weeks and there is no way I feel it.  There is still a lot of work to be done, and I’m ready for the next challenge from our coaches. I’m so looking forward to seeing where I am in another 6 months.

WHAT BROUGHT ME HERE…

Life has changed in many ways since joining Results Fitness.

It all began with a Facebook ad back in December, 2019. After seeing an ad about Rise Up In 6-weeks, I impulsively signed up and just went with it. Jenna from the Results Fitness team called me immediately and when we met for my Strategy Session, I loved her instantly. Her enthusiasm, encouragement and welcoming personality put me at ease and I knew, though I didn’t like the way I looked and felt, things were about to change.

At 53 years of age, I was feeling “Ok, what now?” I was at a major cross roads and had been pondering my next path for quite some time. Seeing that ad on Facebook was the start of a new journey.

To give you a little background as to what brought me here:

Ten years ago, I was married with 3 beautiful children (an 11 year old son and 9 year old twins.) I was building my business and had bought a “fixer-upper” home with lots of space. The perfect place to raise a family. We all loved it and were happy, or so I thought.

Everything changed in the summer of 2010 and my marriage came to a very abrupt end. Sadly, I learned of many deceptions and had to come to terms with the fact that my marriage was a sham, and I had been financially stripped. It took a toll on me in every way possible.

I was now a single mother and though in terrible shock for a long time, I made it my mission to keep my kids in the home they loved, close to their friends and in the same school. Their lives had been completely turned upside down and it was now my job to keep them safe.

So, I pulled my bootstraps up and got on with it.

LIFE BEFORE RESULTS FITNESS

For 10 years my entire life was laser focused on nothing but raising my kids and building my business. I had little time to work out but did when I could. At 49, I joined my kick-boxing group on a 75 mile bike-hike to Cedar Point. I felt very proud of myself but over the years, making time to work out dwindled to eventual nothing.

At the same time, my job was becoming more physically demanding, and as time passed, my joints were becoming painful. I didn’t have the strength I had only a few years before. My legs hurt to go upstairs, and I woke many times in the night due to hip pain.

Was this old age creeping up on me at 53?

I was shocked at what I had let happen to my body and how quickly it happened.

My twins were now seniors in high school and my older son in college, working and enjoying life. All my kids were healthy, very happy, successful, and well accomplished. Our home was the “hub” for their friends, and we regularly had additional people at our table and always lots of laughter. We have had a great life together and they are prepared for their journey, which was my mission.

Inevitably, this chapter came to a close and my daughter went off to college and the boys have their own lives. I had already started thinking about my future and took a good look at where I was. I made up my mind that this is not all I was.

It was time to take my life back, for me.

So, when I saw that ad for Rise Up In 6 Weeks, I didn’t even stop to think about it.

As soon as I met the coaches, I immediately felt welcomed and at home. I needed help to become fit and healthy again, and I essentially handed myself over to them to teach me how to do this. My mindset was simple: ”Show me what to do and I will do it”. The coaches put so much energy into teaching us how to be our best selves possible, that I feel the least I can do is show up and put the work in.

I signed up for the 5:30am classes because I thought, if I’m going to do this, I’m stepping completely out-of-the-box and at 5:30am, I cannot make any excuses for not being there.

I was so afraid of not being able to get up at 4:30am but pretty soon, it became my norm (now I love it).

LIFE AFTER RESULTS FITNESS

When I first started, I could barely do a split squat (my knees were so sore) and I could not do a push up. Now, though not perfect, I CAN do a push up! I have so much more flexibility and the strength is back in my arms and legs. I no longer have any pain and have so much more energy! The workouts can be as tough as I want them to be or if I’m having a low energy day, I scale it back a bit. Regardless, they are always fun and the energy in the gym is contagious.

I feel part of one big family. We are all in it together, we are all working hard and we all have good and bad days (that was important for me to remember, especially in the beginning.)

I wake in the morning at 4:20am and am alert all day. I feel mentally strong again and my old self is re-emerging. I’ll be 54 in a few weeks and there is no way I feel it.  There is still a lot of work to be done, and I’m ready for the next challenge from our coaches. I’m so looking forward to seeing where I am in another 6 months.

You know what is really amazing to me? The breakdown of my marriage caused me to doubt myself at every turn.

Now, I feel confident again. I feel back in control of my own life and the best part is, my adult children see it and have told me, “Proud of you Mum!” My daughter told me, “You look good Mum. That’s how it should be!”

Ha! I think I’m back :)

I am so thankful for the amazing members and coaches Josh, Melany, Amie, and Jenna at Results Fitness and would recommend anyone give it a shot, have courage and TRUST that if you allow it, becoming your best physical and mental self will be life changing in every way!
