What was your biggest fear before signing up for the Results Fitness 1:1 personalized nutrition coaching program?
I was afraid that this might be yet another program that wouldn’t work for me. For more than a decade, not for lack of trying, I hadn’t had any significant weight loss success.
Weight Watcher’s stopped being effective for me, as the program was continually being changed and eventually the meeting rooms closed.
Meanwhile, my metabolism was naturally slowing with age. I talked to my doctor and tried a physician-based program that sadly provided very little guidance.
Prior to signing up for Results Fitness, I decided to try to lower my cholesterol with dietary changes (and succeeded), but all of that oatmeal and healthy fat resulted in gaining even more weight.
Frustrated, I asked my doctor again for advice and she suggested Results Fitness!
What made you decide to overcome those fears and get started with Results Fitness and the nutrition coaching program?
Desperation. No matter what I did, my weight continued to rise through perimenopause and menopause. Before Results Fitness, I was exercising hard almost every day and feeling hungry most of the time. I simply wanted to relearn how to listen to my natural hunger cues and understand what portions of whole, healthy foods to be eating.
Overall, I was tired of trying to fit my diet into a point system and wanted to eat more naturally, the sorts of whole foods my toddler granddaughter was eating.
Before Results Fitness, what was getting in the way of reaching your goal(s)?
For me, it felt like food was my enemy. I thought I was eating all the right foods but often felt hungry and deprived, not to mention frustrated! I am not a tall person, and it seemed so unfair to me that other people could eat so much more than me and stay at a healthy weight.
First, it was managing portions. I needed to eat more protein and better manage portions around carbs and fats, but I wasn’t sure what that looked like for me or how to figure it out on my own. After living through the 1990s “fit or fat” fad, I especially struggled with understanding how much healthy fats to eat.
Despite my best efforts, I would cave to lots of ‘bites, licks, and tastes’ throughout the day as well as binging at holidays, birthdays and when stressed.
Another struggle was eating out. My husband and I love to travel and dine out and food is super important in our family! We were looking for excuses to dine out at any change; especially splurging on the weekends. Once we became empty nesters, our newfound freedom only made that worse!
How did Results Fitness / 1:1 personalized nutrition coaching help you overcome this stuff and succeed?
From my very first meeting with Coach Amie, I felt she understood my struggles. Without completely changing everything I was doing or enjoyed, Coach Amie helped me come up with just a few new habits that made a huge impact!
She also gave me a super simple plan for designing my daily meals and portions and the Results Fitness cookbook was a huge game changer: no more counting points or calories! The meals were simple, easy to cook and delicious!
Without initially intending to, my husband started dropping weight – it felt like a ‘two for one’ benefit! Watching him become motivated motivated me even more.
How is your life different now that your part of Results Fitness and have complete the nutrition coaching program?
I have a much better handle on how to fuel my body, and I’m eating foods I truly enjoy, rather than foods that fit into a prescribed program!
My relationship with food has changed from guilty pleasure to a way to fuel my body and make it healthy. Now when I have a time of indulgence, I feel confident that my success will not be derailed and have been able to get back on track.
By increasing my protein intake, I am much less hungry in general. I am also amazed at how much my belly fat has decreased and how differently my clothes fit!
I had always enjoyed cooking but now weeknight meals at home are so much easier to put together, and I am using my freezer more. When prepping meals, I always make sure to prepare more so there’s leftovers to keep lunches healthy and full of protein!
Another big and important change has been dining out less yet not feeling deprived and enjoying it even more!
I no longer have frequent heartburn, and my husband has reached a much healthier weight in the process; which makes me extremely proud and pleased for him!
In 12 weeks, I relearned how to eat and enjoy healthy foods without feeling guilty! I am walking and running faster, dropped weight and body fat and lost inches off my waist and am especially excited about re-finding my waistline!
All this while still enjoying our nights out a couple of times a week!
Finally, I’ve finally internalized that the number on the scale is not nearly as important as body composition (body fat and muscle mass) and maintaining muscle as I age.
How is the Results Fitness 1:1 personalized nutrition coaching program different from other programs (diets/nutrition based) you’ve tried in the past?
Coach Amie is someone I was comfortable reaching out to at any time with so many questions, seven days a week (although I tried not to bother her late at night!).
I loved being able to lose weight without feeling super deprived and obsessing over numbers – calories and points. This feels so much more natural and normal, making it much easier to stay on track when dining socially, a big part of our lifestyle.
What would you say to someone who is struggling with nutrition but doesn’t know what to do or where to start?
With some minor lifestyle tweaks, Results Fitness will give you the tools you need to turn things around! You never will feel alone–Coach Amie is always available to answer questions, check in and brainstorm.
