What was your biggest fear before signing up for Rise Up?
My biggest fear before starting Rise Up was simply whether I would be able to stick to the program and see actual changes in the end.
The fear of the unknown always causes the most anxiety. Six weeks is not a long time, but it’s also a long time!
Even though I’d been seeing steady progress through my workouts and personalized nutrition coaching with Coach Amie, I just wasn’t sure about my resolve to commit to something a little more intense!
Upping my workouts, tracking my nutrition and macros to a T – it seemed like a huge commitment, and I wasn’t sure I felt confident in myself!
What made you decide to overcome those fears and RISE UP!?
For me, I think the key to overcoming those fears was seeing what other people had experienced in Rise Up in past sessions.
I joined Results Fitness at the tail end of the January 2023 Rise Up and, at the time, was super curious about all the buzz around the gym. People seemed energized and excited by Rise Up! As I dug into the Results Fitness culture and heard about other people’s experiences, I knew Rise Up was something I’d like to try out!
I thought if these folks can do it – regular people just like me with careers, families, and busy lives outside the gym – so can I!
Before Rise Up, what was getting in the way of seeing results and reaching your goal(s)?
The key for me in succeeding in Rise Up was being consistent with the 7 habits you track and are practicing each day to improve, little by little: A consistent “why”, my weekly action steps that supported by goal, sleep, exercise, active recovery, community, and nutrition (including hydration).
These habits form the foundation of what you’re doing during Rise Up and it helped to set goals each week for each category – from bigger changes like pushing myself to do as many workouts in the gym as I could per week to smaller ones like hitting a daily water goal.
Above all, reminding myself why I was doing it and committing to my goals helped me stick to it! And as I began to see changes over the course of Rise Up, my confidence in sticking to it began to grow.
How did Rise Up help you overcome this barrier and succeed?
The way Rise Up is structured makes it very easy to follow guidelines for “building a better plate” and understanding portions, macronutrients, and fueling your body for workouts. It takes a little planning, thinking, and prep work at first but ultimately, those things become habits over the course of Rise Up and beyond.
The workbook and cookbook that are provided are really great resources for tracking progress and understanding the habits you’re building.
And there’s a ton of accountability built into Rise Up – you get to work with your own coach for 6 weeks, and they are all really amazing at offering candid feedback on your progress, making suggestions about how to tweak a recipe, or pushing you to make incremental changes each week.
The other Rise Up participants are also great resources for sharing ideas and just offering encouragement – it’s a great group of people to Rise Up with!
Now that I’ve Rise-d Up, I feel much better equipped to make better nutrition choices.
I truly can feel a difference in workouts when I’m well-fueled, rested, and hydrated v. when I’m not, and I want to keep that momentum going! The 7 habits are a great framework for day-to-day life. And I have to say, I got used to 5-6 workouts a week so I’m pushing myself harder at the gym than ever before!
What was your biggest nutrition struggle before Rise Up?
Prior to doing Rise Up, my biggest struggle regarding nutrition was with food portions and meal compositions.
I wasn’t thinking about how much protein I was getting in a typical meal, or if the portions on my plate needed to be different than those on my husband’s (spoiler alert: they did)!
Learning these things by doing definitely helped to make them habits, and post-Rise Up, they’re definitely things I consider more closely in planning meals.
How did Rise Up help you overcome this struggle to succeed?
The nutrition and macronutrient guidelines/portions for Rise Up were extremely helpful in planning out meals that were nutritious, balanced, and also satisfying.
I really enjoy cooking (and love to eat even more!), and I really had a good time trying new flavor combinations and finding ways to incorporate the appropriate portions of macros into each meal.
For instance, through other Warriors, I discovered the fine art of creating a mixing bowl salad, which is a delicious godsend at lunchtime!
How has your life change since completing Rise Up ?
In 6 weeks I lost 14 pounds total, and 12 pounds of body fat!
More importantly, I felt a lot better and started to notice big changes in my workouts, including better mobility and endurance.
Most importantly, I challenged myself to get out of my comfort zone and make some changes that led to great results! As I mentioned, I definitely felt my confidence improve through this process!
What would you say to someone reading this who feels stuck, frustrated or unsure how to reach their goals?
For anyone who might be in the same boat as me pre-Rise Up, I would recommend diving in and giving it a try.
There’s so much support built into Rise Up – from the coaches, other participants – that it is really easy to learn the habits that form the foundation of the program. You’re challenging yourself to accomplish something for yourself, and that’s a big deal!
