FOOD PAIRINGS: SEXY SNACKS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY
If you’re anything like those of us at Results Fitness, when you think of Valentine’s Day, you think of one thing… healthy snack pairings! I mean, that’s what most people think of, right? Well don’t worry, RF has your back on the ultimate healthy (and sexy!) snack plan: Pairing a fruit with a healthy fat. Why fruit and fat? I am so glad you asked.
This pair works so well for three main reasons:
1) It creates a delicious mix of sweet and savory (sometimes even salty)
Why do food companies add salt and or sugar to foods that are already sweet? Because it hits on a ton of different biological sensors telling our brains, “Yes, this combination is exactly what I need for survival”. In reality, a salted caramel pretzel is not what our bodies need, but our primal brains might get a bit lost in that because, come on, its delicious.
2) Provides a load of nutrition
So, how does this relate to fruit and fat? Fruits provide the sweet carbohydrates while fats provide the savory/creamy/salty combo to nourish our bodies. Between the two, you are eating a hit of fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, and more.
3) Fats are a primary source of hormone production
With Valentine’s Day around the corner.…. Wink, Wink Dudes.
Coach Matty B’s Favorite Fruit + Fat Pairings:
As you prepare for an adult night in on February 14, 15, 16 or hell, all weekend, don’t forget to prepare a deliciously sweet + savory snack for your significant other. They will most certainly appreciate the thoughtful and satiating gesture!
Honeycrisp Apple with a bit of Almond Butter
Banana with Natural Chunky Peanut Butter (I like Smucker’s Brand)
Berries with Full Fat Greek Yogurt
Sliced Grapes with Salted Raw Cashews (seriously try this one)
