You’re sliding into the final stretch of 2025 and welp, let’s be honest – the “cookies for breakfast and chaos for dinner” time of year!
Life is A LOT right now: holiday shopping, wrapping gifts, cooking, cleaning, hosting, traveling, and trying to keep yourself upright with nothing but caffeine and sheer willpower.
Your energy is tanking, your motivation is hibernating, and your healthy habits have politely exited the building. But here’s a little insider truth from someone who’s coached thousands of busy adults over the last 20+ years: December is actually one of the BEST times to start moving again—if you do it the right way! And that’s the problem. Most people don’t know what “the right way” looks like—especially if they’re dealing with old injuries, joint replacements, or haven’t worked out since… who knows when. Most people are scared of making the wrong decision or ending up with a trainer who doesn’t understand their age, their injuries, or their reality. If that sounds even a little familiar and you’re curious what getting started really looks like this time of year, keep reading! This blog breaks down exactly how to get started without stress, without extremes and without waiting for January to magically fix everything.______________________________________________________________________________________________
THE HOLIDAY ABC’s OF MOVEMENT
The essential movements are NOT fancy schmancy exercises and movements designed for the elite. Think of these as your body’s essential movement patterns—the same ones you use during everyday holiday chaos:
• Pushing: Opening a heavy door when your hands are full of gifts for your favorite coaches (wink, wink)
• Pulling: Tugging your winter coat from the closet or carrying shopping bags.
• Knee movements: Standing up after wrapping gifts on the floor or playing with your grandkids.
• Hip movements: Bending to pick something up or plugging in decorations.
• Core stability: Staying balanced when walking on icy driveways.
These aren’t complicated gym exercises. They’re functional movements you already use in daily life—just often without proper strength behind them.
What matters most is choosing the right version of each exercise for your body and fitness level.
Not the hardest version, not the trendiest version, and not the “I saw this online” version.
Beginners often assume harder equals better, but in reality:
• Too-complex exercises increase injury risk.
• Improper form leads to frustration.
• Overwhelming routines create inconsistency.
A simple, properly chosen exercise will deliver better results than a complex one done incorrectly!
You can absolutely start this journey alone, but having a coach gives you the clarity, confidence, and safety that most beginners want—especially during a busy holiday season.
