This journey at Results Fitness, especially Rise Up , has helped me grow mentally knowing that being healthy isn’t always defined by the number on the scale.

It’s allowed me to believe that every day is another day to push myself to be a stronger and healthier version of myself.

New Year = New Resolutions. That’s the mindset most people have as they enter into a year new. Whether personal or professional, a new year acts as a reset button to make corrections or strive to meet new challenges. Having the mindset to tackle new goals is one thing, but following through with them is another. I’ve had the reputation to be, what I like to call it, a “resolution drop-out”. So when I joined Results Fitness in the fall of 2015, I was ready for a new kind of challenge. The challenge to be held accountable and to form healthier habits.

The 2016 Rise Up program was the first time I actually followed through with a New Year resolution. And I hope I’m not alone in that department… but, I owe my accomplishment all to realizing that a healthier lifestyle was much bigger than a New Year’s resolution; it’s a lifetime commitment.

Being newer to Results Fitness, I was a little nervous to accept the Rise Up challenge, but the mental and physical commitment that Coach Josh and the RF team displayed inspired me to hold myself accountable to see it through the entire 8 weeks.

I’ve always been one to want to see results right away, and when I don’t; I quit.  So this challenge, for me, was more about the commitment to a healthier lifestyle rather than the number on the scale. It was all about getting into the right mindset to direct my focus on the right habits rather than instant and extreme results.

Wanting to see drastic results on a daily basis to achieve a major goal makes it very easy to become discouraged. Believe me, I know this from experience. Every diet I’ve ever tried, I would weigh myself every day wondering if what I ate the day before helped me lose a pound or two the next day. In the battle between the scale and I, the scale somehow always won. I was too outcome oriented in a micro time frame and didn’t really focus on physical fitness.

The 2016 Rise Up program allowed me to trust that results will eventually come as long as I continue to make healthier decisions and forming better habits. Halfway into the challenge, I became a firm believer that every day on the right path still closes the gap between me and my goal. Slow progress is still progress.

Although I went down a few pounds and lost a little over 2 inches off my waist, my favorite outcome was the way I felt. I had more energy and I noticed a difference in my productivity both at home and at work.

The below picture of me is a before and after of the 2016 Rise Up. Although I went down a few pounds and lost a little over 2 inches off my waist, my favorite outcome was the way I felt. I had more energy and I noticed a difference in my productivity both at home and at work.

Reflecting on this picture gets me excited not only to see what I can achieve in the 2017 Rise Up program, but what new and long-term habits I can form from it. This journey at Results Fitness, especially Rise Up, has helped me grow mentally knowing that being healthy isn’t always defined by the number on the scale. It’s allowed me to believe that every day is another day to push myself to be a stronger and healthier version of myself.

But most importantly, this challenge has proven to me that setting goals and crushing them is achievable. If you haven’t participated in a challenge like this before, this is my challenge to you — I challenge you to give it a try. What have you got to lose? Rise Up might just be the key to creating and sticking to your New Year’s and lifetime resolutions. It was for me.
