CAUTION TO THE WIND

If you know me, you understand I am usually a very cautious person; I think things out, have a game plan, etc.  However, when I saw the Facebook post ‘inviting’ women ages 50 to 59 to join the Results Fitness Rise Up In 6 weeks kickstart challenge, I immediately jumped on it!

It was a moment where I decided this was something I needed to do and ‘threw caution to the wind’.

My biggest fear was the unknown. Never had I done ANYTHING like this before: never belonged to a gym or participated in any group exercise class. The exercise I did was in the privacy of my own home so starting with Results Fitness was going to be very new for me.

Well, I was determined to give it a try (better late than never) and was excited about meeting new people in a setting sooooo unfamiliar to me . I think that actually was part of the driving force. Before officially starting, I was invited to meet the Results Fitness team and tour the gym. It was a pleasant surprise to see men and women across all groups. Seeing this told me this place adapts to and works with all fitness levels.


My biggest fear about starting was thinking “this is really gonna kick my ass - am I ready for it?”.

I was geared up for the nutrition part, logging what I was eating, identifying goals and action steps and even meal planning. But, OMG the workouts - wholly crap - those would prove to be the most challenging part of the program for me.

I am not a sedentary person by any means, having exercised and built up some muscle mass. But from what I was seeing during the RF tour, I was no where near the fitness level of these folks and feared looking like a whimp. I have little upper body strength let alone power in my lower body so realistically, I accepted this was gonna be tough.

Looking back, I really don’t think I had the initial confidence in myself to pull this off. But life had thrown me some difficult curves the past few years really testing tested my inner strength and resolve. In the past 4 years I had fought and won my battle with breast cancer, buried both my parents, and went through a divorce. Surely I would be up for this challenge!

MY FIRST GROUP CLASS

Despite all these fears, It was time to do something for ME - something positive!

And, the only way to accomplish that was getting out of my comfort zone. This opportunity was screaming to me “You can’t back out. You have to do this. You WANT to do this!”. It was true - I absolutely did want to do Rise Up. If I could get through this 6 weeks, I could really improve the way I feel, the way I look and build on that confidence I was lacking. It was time to do something FOR ME! I am the type of person who always puts the needs of everyone else before my own. It was time to put myself first. This was a driving force that kept me going and keeps me coming back.

My very first workout at Results Fitness?

I was really concerned about my ability to do the exercises. I was not very strong or flexible and my balance sucked. Not to mention, I never used this type of exercise equipment. But this immediately changed. The beautiful thing was how there were modifications for virtually every exercise! These coaches had it all figured out, addressing my concerns even before I shared them! During the group classes Coach Melanie (literally a godsend to me) would always be making sure we were performing the exercises correctly: bending properly, applying pressure appropriately, trying to ensure we understood the proper movement in order to benefit from the exercise.

Maybe this is the norm at many gyms, but these RF coaches are soooo helpful, so available, they are really here to help us achieve our best possible health! As a whole, Results Fitness is very much invested in our nutrition, fitness, and overall well being!

HOW LIFE HAS CHANGED

Since becoming a Results Fitness Warrior, I have accomplished my personal goal I have had for a while: overall better health!

Like so many of you, I tried doing this on my own but we know how well that goes. You truly need someone kicking you in the ass (in a safe, fun way) and you need cheerleaders; Results Fitness provides both!

The coaches challenge you the right way - safely and effectively - knowing that form and technique matter most so you don’t get hurt and get the most out of every workout. They are also incredibly encouraging at the same time and have this special talent for making you feel like you could keep squatting for hours, despite feeling like your lower end will collapse!

Above everything else, I am truly amazed by my physical transformation. Having seen ads in the past with before and after pictures and wondering “is that for real?” I can now say with confidence those body transformations can happen!

Sure I lost weight, which was expected. I was more amazed losing 11 pounds of body fat in just 6 weeks! At my age of 54, losing weight, let alone body fat can be harder to accomplish. For me, seeing these results and hearing that statistic confirmed I needed to stick with Results Fitness and this new lifestyle.

In 6 weeks I felt energized, healthy, stronger, and more confident than I have in years. I’d be crazy not wanting to continue to build on this new found life! I feel a sense of pride completing this journey. It was not at all easy, but I was committed to follow through and see some positive results; which completely surpassed my expectations.

Sure, I knew I would lose some weight and begin to gain strength back in my upper and lower body, but this 54 year old women  with jiggly bingo arms and fat ass had absolutely no idea how much she could visually transform her body in 6 weeks.

Fast forward to December, 2020 as I am about to hit my one year anniversary since first starting and now more than ever, I am committed to working on being in the best shape. Further, working out almost every morning is a great way to start your day. I feel energized, yet relaxed. Work as we all know can be very stressful and the lives we lead have some level of stress from time to time, if not daily. A regular exercise routine really helps deal with those stressful days in a healthy way. It helps you relax, think things through more clearly as well as helps motivate you. Exercise is good for the body and the soul!
