“When are you due” are probably the worst 4 words a woman can hear if she is post-partum. But don’t worry, those are the words I was asked 3 months after giving birth to my son.
After calmly collecting myself enough to make it out of the store, I sobbed. Any woman who is a mother or any significant other to a woman post-partum knows how hard it is, to not only get back to the “you” pre-pregnancy, but to look the same in such a short period of time.
From the moment those 4 words were uttered, I knew 2017 was meant to be my year; the year I got back to me, pre-baby. I anxiously waited for the start of the Results Fitness 8-Week Rise Up Challenge and set my mind to killing it. Now, if you are reading this and you’ve experienced a newborn, you know that making it to the gym in the suggested frequency of 3-4 days per week is not likely. You also know getting the suggested 7 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep… also not likely. But, what I have always loved about Results Fitness are their modifications and the willingness to help meet you, wherever you are. Whatever I threw at the coaches, they had an answer. The rule that basically, there are no rules. You do you, but here is the best way to do it.
GETTING BACK TO YOU
During the 8 weeks of Rise Up, I followed the helpful guidelines of Coaches Josh and Matt. I ate exactly the way they told me to, with modifications that were important to me. I relied on my friends to post recipes or to share when they had a well-deserved cheat meal, which meant I never once felt alone on my journey. I think my success at Results Fitness can be summed up by the encouraging words of Josh and Matt. They were there every step to let me know not to strive for perfection. Josh has always told me, “Be a B student. Don’t kill yourself trying to be 100%”, and I think that realistic goal helped frame my experience.
In 8 short weeks, which let’s be honest, is not a long time, I lost 3% body fat, dropped 9 pounds and felt the healthiest I had in a long time. Not only did I look different and feel better, I actually weighed less than before becoming pregnant. My story is truly one on how much nutrition impacts your desired outcomes and results because during those 8 weeks, I was only able to work out 8 times. Which is a bit embarrassing, but hey, you work with what you have!
Results Fitness has not only been a gym for me but a true safe-haven. A place for me to feel like I’m crushing goals and a sounding board for people in similar places. During my pregnancy, when I felt at my worst or was my biggest critic, so many people helped build me up; helped push me a little further. Their encouraging words or kind sentiments telling me how great it was to see a pregnant lady working out were empowering. And, above everything else, made me want to be better. Once I gave birth, every person wanted to make sure I felt welcomed back and that made me feel strong and confident. The community at Results Fitness is unparalleled and the education I received, not only during Rise Up, is something I will keep with me for a lifetime. I have maintained my weight and am currently setting new goals for 2018. Back to full on meal-preps and healthy eating because… IT WORKS, and I am living proof.
