Welcome to what will soon become a regular series here on the RF blog: Chris’s Favorite Reads of the Week. I consume a lot of fitness articles and blog posts on the daily, many of them rich with knowledge, motivation and inspiration that we can all benefit from. So, I’ll read allllllll the articles, and deliver just the VERY BEST to you. Here’s my favorite three from this week. You’re welcome. Enjoy!
1 // STRIVING TO BE MORE INSTEAD OF WANTING TO BE LESS by Tony Gentilcore
Ever get asked by someone, “what are you training for?” This article gives you the correct response as well as other awesome reasons to become More. The post is aimed at women and strength training, but as the title alludes, it’s really about rejecting the notion of trying become a weaker, smaller, lesser version of yourself and striving to be a strong, sexy beast!
2 // HOW TO BREAK YOUR BODY SHAMING HABIT By Coach Stevo
Love this article about a woman breaking herself of body shaming and coming to the realization that she works out to feel good about herself, not to live up to some sort of social pressure. Simply by changing who she follows in social media. Guys, this can apply to you too. I was recently caught in a rut because I was following elite level guys and girls on Insta watching them hit PR after PR that are wayyyyy higher than mine. Every week the weights seemed to increase while I was struggling to eek out a 5 lb increase. I got discouraged about not getting results fast enough. Well, I finally said, fuck it! Here’s where I am today and I’m not going to try and keep up with somebody else on social media. Ain’t nobody got time for that. I am simply going to own today’s training session and focus on being 1% better today.
3 // 5 MORE SCIENTIFIC REASONS ATHLETES SHOULD EAT CARBS By Travis Hansen
You probably think I chose this article because I was simply searching for information that gives me a good reason to keep loving carbs. NOOOOO! (eyes darting back and forth nervously) Look, if you train consistently and intensely, then you are an athlete in my book. Therefore, you need enough carbs to fuel your training. Key word is ENOUGH. Not overindulge. That’s another topic altogether for now just read some cool reasons why we all should be eating some carbs.
