Being Comfortable is for the Couch!
At the beginning of the week I sent a message with the weekly schedule. It pertained to pushing yourself to be a little uncomfortable and challenge your body to do something it hasn’t done before. Let me expand on that thought a little bit.
Your body is a wonderland. Before you get creeped out let me explain. The human body is amazing at adapting to stress. These stressors come from every aspect of life. In this instance I’m referring to the stress we place on the body during a training session. As our bodies adapt to the training regimen we need to change or increase the stress our bodies endure to elicit the same training effect. This is why after a period of time we change the style of workouts. We need enough time for the body to learn a movement pattern, and become more efficient, but not so much time that the body becomes bored and stops adapting. Another way we induce stress onto the body is by increasing the load, or the weight, for a given exercise. For all of the ladies out there don’t worry about bulking up. I promise you will not suddenly turn into the Incredible Hulk…unless you are taking testosterone injections! Everyone will however, get lean and more athletic.
One last reminder, we still need to focus on quality movement. Be smart about it. I don’t want to sacrifice good form and risk injury just to move more weight. Remember we are doing this together! You push yourself just a little, and I will do my best to identify the movements where you can safely increase weight and do things you haven’t done before.
CHALLENGE = CHANGE
